Indie rockers, Portugal. the Man, will shake up the Downtown Arts District in Norman as they make their first appearance at the fifth annual Norman Music Festival (NMF).
The US band will belt out their psychedelic pop for concertgoers on Saturday, April 28, along with Hayes Carll on the other Main Stage, whose Bob Dylan inspired alternative country music will continue to charm fans throughout Oklahoma. “The Norman Music Festival has established itself as the most dynamic music festival in Oklahoma,” says Co-Chair, Steven White. “We are very pleased to welcome Portugal. the Man and Hayes Carll as headliners to NMF5. We know there will be thousands of enthusiastic fans that will be royally entertained with these acts.” More than 200 other bands will also showcase their talents during the three-day free event.
The fifth annual Norman Music Festival is set for Thursday through Saturday, April 26th-28th in Norman, Okla. The three-day event will feature indoor and outdoor performances on Thursday and Friday nights and culminating with a full day of music, family friendly activities, shopping and entertainment on Saturday. Previous headliners include The Walkmen, Dirty Projectors, Of Montreal, Leon Russell, Electric Six, The Sword, The Polyphonic Spree and Chainsaw Kittens. Additional bands performing at the fifth annual festival will be announced at a later date. “The Norman Music Festival is designed to support musicians world wide,” says NMF Chair, Steven White. “Portugal. The Man and Hayes Carll are a great, diverse duo for headlining our festival.”
In addition to another festival, the NMF committee established a 501 (c)(3) organization in 2012. The Norman Music Alliance will now take on the responsibility of organizing and promoting the annual festival. The mission of the Norman Music Alliance is to promote live events for the community of Norman, Oklahoma, and the surrounding area that celebrates original music of many genres produced by local, regional and national musicians. Charter board members for Norman Music Alliance are Steven White, President; Kent Johnson, Vice-President; Charis Ward, Secretary; Gene Bertman, Board Member; and Quentin Bomgardner, Board Member.
NMF 5 will take place on the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of the historic Downtown Arts District of Norman, located on Main Street east of the railroad tracks. Once again, the festival is free and open to the public. One of the easiest ways to support the festival is through a VIP pass.
