NMF5 Large Stage Acts Announced

Bands Announced for Norman Music Festival

NMF Main and Jack Daniels stages announce their line-up

NORMAN, Okla.- On April 26, 27 and 28, Norman will rock to the beats of some of the best indie bands in the nation, including headliners, Portugal. The Man and Hayes Carll.

“The Festival has lined up some incredible bands and we can’t wait to share them with the public,” says NMF Chair, Steven White.

On Saturday, April 28, downtown Norman will transform into one of the nations largest music festivals. To accommodate the growing audience, the Main Stage will be located at Main Street and Porter.

Tulsa’s funky Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey and self-proclaimed American band, Red Wanting Blue, will be featured on this year’s Main Stage. Other bands scheduled to perform on this stage include: Weekend Hustler, Rainbows are Free, Crown Imperial, Modern Rock Diaries, and Other Lives.

The Norman Music Festival’s Jack Daniels Stage includes nationally known artists such as: Hayes Carll, The Giving Tree, Parker Millsap, The Damn Quails, Alejandro Escovedo, Krystal Keith, Possum Posse, and Camille Harp and John Calvin.

A full list of bands performing the 2012 Norman Music Festival will be available in April.

The festival will again be held in downtown Norman, on Main Street in the Arts District, extending from the 300 blocks of E. Main Street and the 100 block of W. Main Street.

The mission of the Norman Music Alliance is to promote live events for the community of Norman, Oklahoma, and the surrounding area that celebrates original music of many genres produced by local, regional and national musicians.

One of the easiest ways to support the festival is through a VIP pass. Mingle with the bands in VIP lounges, gain access to the VIP stage pit, enjoy complimentary food and beverage, special edition t-shirts and more. The VIP experience is only $60.

Music Video Picks return for the second year to the Norman Music Festival.  Sponsored by the Cinematic Artists of Norman, judges will choose the winning music video to be screened at the festival.  The People’s Pick will be judged and screened during the festival as well. For the second year the Cinematic Artists of Norman are teaming up with the Norman Music Festival to host original music videos for the Music Video Picks.  This year all submitted music videos will be judged by 3 super swell peeps: Vahid Farzaneh of Freestyle Productions, Cacky Poarch, former deadCENTER executive director, and Mike Hosty, local singer and songwriter.

Portugal the Man to Headline NMF5

Indie rockers, Portugal. the Man, will shake up the Downtown Arts District in Norman as they make their first appearance at the fifth annual Norman Music Festival (NMF).

The US band will belt out their psychedelic pop for concertgoers on Saturday, April 28, along with Hayes Carll on the other Main Stage, whose Bob Dylan inspired alternative country music will continue to charm fans throughout Oklahoma.  “The Norman Music Festival has established itself as the most dynamic music festival in Oklahoma,” says Co-Chair, Steven White. “We are very pleased to welcome Portugal. the Man and Hayes Carll as headliners to NMF5. We know there will be thousands of enthusiastic fans that will be royally entertained with these acts.”  More than 200 other bands will also showcase their talents during the three-day free event.

The fifth annual Norman Music Festival is set for Thursday through Saturday, April 26th-28th in Norman, Okla. The three-day event will feature indoor and outdoor performances on Thursday and Friday nights and culminating with a full day of music, family friendly activities, shopping and entertainment on Saturday.  Previous headliners include The Walkmen, Dirty Projectors, Of Montreal, Leon Russell, Electric Six, The Sword, The Polyphonic Spree and Chainsaw Kittens.  Additional bands performing at the fifth annual festival will be announced at a later date.  “The Norman Music Festival is designed to support musicians world wide,” says NMF Chair, Steven White. “Portugal. The Man and Hayes Carll are a great, diverse duo for headlining our festival.”

In addition to another festival, the NMF committee established a 501 (c)(3) organization in 2012. The Norman Music Alliance will now take on the responsibility of organizing and promoting the annual festival.  The mission of the Norman Music Alliance is to promote live events for the community of Norman, Oklahoma, and the surrounding area that celebrates original music of many genres produced by local, regional and national musicians.  Charter board members for Norman Music Alliance are Steven White, President; Kent Johnson, Vice-President; Charis Ward, Secretary; Gene Bertman, Board Member; and Quentin Bomgardner, Board Member.

NMF 5 will take place on the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of the historic Downtown Arts District of Norman, located on Main Street east of the railroad tracks.
